Building a profitable home based business does take time, knowledge and work but with all the modern resources and technology we have access to in 2016 it makes it easier than ever before to start.

There is no real hidden secret to building an online business working from home.

You only need a few basic components. A computer, internet connection a website and knowledge of getting people to your website and purchasing your products or services.

The common problems people encounter when they start their own home based business.

I had these same problems when I decided to start my own home business back in 2012.

The problem I encountered was, I could not get anyone to check out my website, let alone join me.

I was hanging out fliers every where I went, telephone poles at busy intersections, cork boards at all stores I went into to. I even stuck my fliers under the windshield wipers on all the cars I passed walking into the store.

Looking back now, knowing what I know now. I must have have been the stupidest person in town.

I literally use to park at the far end of the parking lot and had a goal to put out 25 fliers on every car I passed on my way in to the store.

After about 3 weeks, 4 ink cartridges for my printer and stacks of paper. I wondered why no one was interested in joining my business.

Then my mind started wondering.

This just doesn’t work and my dreams were getting shattered.

But instead of giving up, I started searching the Internet and watching YouTube videos, learning more effective ways to advertise my home based business.

I was really shy, so approaching and talking to strangers was out of the picture.

I knew there had to be a better and more effective way to advertise my business to get people to join.

I was determined.

I knew it worked and knew it was possible, I just needed to discover a way to make it happen.

Who ever would have joined me from posting fliers on cars?

I was sneaking around and hurrying up and sticking my flier under the windshield wipers while no one was looking.

Then when the people came back to their car, it pissed them off they had paper under their windshield wiper and they looked at it and threw it on the ground.

The main problem was, they were not looking to start a home based business.

No wonder why no one was joining.

After a few days of endlessly searching the internet looking for a better way to advertise I ran into my first mentor.

He taught me how to start a blog.

Then my mind kicked in to overdrive.

I kept thinking I could never start a blog, I don’t know how to write or spell.

What was I going to write about?

I hate writing.

But I kept showing up to the trainings and in a few weeks, I started to figure it out.

What really caught my attention was the power of blogging,  I could spend a few hours writing a blog post, then when I hit publish, that post was going to be on the Internet working for me, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year and it was targeting the right people at the right time.

So when people where searching on Google, Bing or Yahoo for particular phrases and the link to my blog or videos was on the top of the search results, they came to my site and looked around.

If they liked what they seen, they became a lead and eventually a customer or team member.

The secret popped right out and slapped me in the face.

The real secret to building a profitable home based business is targeting the right people at the right time and give them exactly what they want.

So over the past 3 years I have been perfecting and mastering these techniques and strategies .

If you are looking to start a home based business or take your existing home based business to the next level.

Take the time to learn and implement these techniques you’re going to have a major advantage over your competition.

Finding the right people to advertise to.

The very first and MOST important skill is targeting the right people at the right time.

I learned the hard way, that not everyone is going to join your business or purchase your products or services.

There is a certain audience, what I like to call pocket of people, you want to target.

Just think of yourself as a problem solver, because that is what we are.

Let’s talk about targeting people, looking to start a home based business.

They’re going to search for certain phrases or keywords, such as.

  • How to start a home-based business.
  • Franchise opportunities.
  • Work from home opportunities.
  • I hate my job.
  • I need a better career.
  • Stay at home moms & dads and the list goes on.

These people are looking for a change.

Now our goal is to get our message in front of them and explain to them the benefits of having their own home business and talk directly to them.

So for an example.

If you were targeting stay at home moms, you would want to tell them how having a home-based business with allow them to spend more time with their family and being there as their kids grow up, instead of work long hours and over time just to afford the day care.

They can work their business when the kids are taking a nap, sleeping or when their husband or wife is watching them.

Do you understand what I am talking about?

For a different example, let’s just say you’re selling flip-flops.

Who would be your idea customer?

It would be people who live near a beach in a warmer climate.

It would be a total waste of time adverting to an Eskimo is Antarctic, wouldn’t it.

So before you go out and just blanket the neighborhood with fliers or wasting your time trying to convince the wrong people, just take a step back and ask yourself.

Do they have a problem and can I help them solve it.

Ways to reach your target audience.

There are over 101 different way to reach your ideal prospect.

Over the years you will dabble in a lot of them to see what ones work the best for you, but before you begin trying this and trying that. Ask yourself what don’t you want to do.

When I started advertising back in 2012. I knew I did not want to talk on the phone, bug my friends or family, approach random strangers and give them my sales pitch.

So that lead me into blogging and video marketing.

I was much more comfortable sitting in front of my computer writing a blog post that is going to be seen by thousands of people, or turning on the camera and shooting a quick video, than having to do cold calling or begging random strangers to check out my business opportunity.

Some of you may be more outgoing and sociable than me. You may love to strike up conversations with strangers and lead into a sales pitch.

You just got to go out and try it and see what you want to do.

Focus on money-making activities.

If you are a blogger like me, set a goal to post a 3-5 new posts a week and share them with people in your target market on social platforms such as Google+, Facebook, Twitter and other popular sites.

If you rather talk to people, set a goal to talk to 10-20 people a week.

Remember we only get paid for results.

Set a weekly goal and stick with it.

The harsh reality.

I am just going to be blunt and honest with you.

NOT everyone you talk to is going to join or be friendly.

There are going to be people who are negative and hateful.

Don’t let it get to you.

You just know they are not interested.

Don’t waste your time trying to convince them, just add them to your not interested list and continue to find interested people.

The more you do it the better and more effective you will get.

The secret to building a profitable home-based business is selling your products or services, the more you sell the more you make.

It all starts with targeting the right people and helping them solve their problem.

Over time you will get better and better getting the right message in front of the right people.

The three pillars to any business is.

Traffic –> Leads —> Sales

The better you get at finding the right people, getting leads and sales will be a lot easier.

So if you’re new to the home-based business industry, STOP and make a list of all the people who would be an ideal prospect for your product or service.

Once you know your target market, start adverting to them and present your solution that is going to fix their problem and make their life better.

Practice makes progress.

The more progress you make the better you get.

The better you get the easier it is.

The easier it is, the better it will be.

Set a goal, stay focused and shoot for the stars.
